How to Add Sentimental Touches to Your Wedding

Although the big picture is important when it comes to wedding planning, don’t forget about the small details! Take a peek at these ideas on how to add sentimental touches to your wedding to help guide you. The Iroquois Club offers full-service wedding planning and would love to help you implement these ideas (and more) into your big day.

Charms for Loved Ones

Not all loved ones can be present at your nuptials, but you can keep them close by using a framed photo in a locket. Carry a piece of them with you as you walk down the aisle by attaching the charm to your bouquet or to the back of your shoes. For grooms that would like to honor someone, they can have custom cufflinks made with a photo or attach a locket to their boutonniere. You can even store them in a frame with dried flowers for a forever keepsake.

Mom’s Wedding Dress

If your mom preserved her wedding dress and doesn’t mind you having a small piece of it, use it to add an emotional touch to your big day. Feel free to wrap a piece around the stems of your bouquet or use for your garter. You can also incorporate the material in jewelry, such as a necklace, bracelet or earrings for you to wear on your wedding day.

Family Photos

Put other married family members on display at your wedding venue by framing photos from their wedding day. Consider placing a picture of your parents and your partner’s on their big day cutting their wedding cake on your cake table. On the other hand, you can gather some photos of parents, grandparents and any other generations you would like (or have room for) and put on a designated table.

Love Story

Allow your guests to view or read you and your future spouse’s love story through personalized décor. Display your love story through images and descriptions from your first meeting to engagement on a customized aisle runner. Another idea is to have a framed board with details of your romantic tale and wedding day information such as the time and date of occasion, first dance song and location of honeymoon.

Guest Book

Instead of a traditional guest book, add an emotional feature by having guests sign a wooden heart and drop into a shadow box frame for you to keep in your home after the wedding. If the to-be-wedded pair are religious, consider using a Bible and have patrons write a special note near their favorite verse. In addition, a common interest of the couple can be used, such as using a blank record for guests to sign for music enthusiasts.

Centerpieces

Use your centerpieces as a way to show your attendees what you and your partner looked like at each age with a photo that corresponds with the table number. For couples that love to travel or have a lot of locations that are significant, try naming your tables after these places and include a caption of a memory or why it is important.  An additional sentiment can be to mark each table with a bottle of wine and have the guests that are seated at the table sign a message for the married couple to read while they drink that bottle on the number’s anniversary.
