Most-iconic Movie Weddings

Here’s our countdown to the five most-iconic movie weddings in the past 20 years.

5. Bridesmaids (2011)

Starting off our list is the hilarious 2011 film Bridesmaids. Characters Annie (Kristen Wiig) and Helen (Rose Byrne) spend the entire movie competing for the title of best-friend-slash-Maid-of-Honor for Lillian (Maya Rudolph). Despite the many battles throughout the movie, the wedding scene was one to remember. The couple, officiant, and wedding party stand on platforms floating ethereally above water. They are also surrounded by fog and a beautiful waterfall behind them. After the newlyweds exchange their vows a congratulations message is displayed in neon lights against the waterfall and fireworks go off. To add even more excitement to the film, Helen's final attempt to one-up Annie is to hire Lillian’s favorite band, Wilson Phillips, to perform. The scene was the perfect mix of wedding goals and humor.

4. Love Actually (2003)

This film follows the lives of many couples navigating life and looking for love in London. While there are many great moments in the film, we have to admit the wedding scene still wows us nearly 20 years later. As the couple, Juliet and Peter, is exiting the chapel, they are stopped by a choir and live band singing the tune “All You Need Is Love.”  Turns out the best man has surprised the newlyweds with a lovely live performance.

3. 27 Dresses (2008)

Jane Nichols personifies the saying “always a bridesmaids, never a bride.” After many ups and downs Jane finally finds the man of her dreams (even if he doesn’t start out that way). On the day of her wedding Jane and her future husband stand on a platform just in front of a gorgeous beach view. As the camera pans out you see all 27 of the brides whose weddings Jane attended wearing the bridesmaids dresses she once wore in their wedding. The scene brought to mind another favorite (and usually untrue!) wedding cliche: “you can wear it again!”

2. Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1 (2011)

After much anticipation twilight fans witnessed the long-awaited wedding of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan. The two were wed in the beautiful forested backyard of the Cullens’ family home. White flowers hung above the guests on vines and covered the ground as Bella walked down the aisle. Her simple dress mixed with the lush surroundings were truly a fairytale.

1.Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

Coming in at number one on our list of iconic movie wedding scenes is the blockbuster film Crazy Rich Asians. There were so many unique elements that made this wedding beautiful that we only wish we could have been there to see it ourselves. The church was decorated into a beautiful, earthy forest with flowers and leaves draping the walls and aisles. Guests rose with tea light candles attached to greenery as the live band performed “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You'' by Elvis Presley.  The aisle then transforms into a flowing river as the bride appears, draws her leg over greenery, steps into the water and walks down the aisle. We can’t forget how stunning the wedding dress was too!

Have you seen any of these films? What ideas would you incorporate into your perfect wedding? Which movie weddings do you love that we missed?
