Weddings by The Season

Sharing your vows with the one you love should take place in the perfect setting and season. While perfection is subjective and Mother Nature is unpredictable, being prepared can help minimize the stress of the unknown. Consider these seasonal factors as you decide when to host your wedding

Spring

Pro

  • Fabulous Florals: Spring weddings are the perfect time to utilize greenery and flowers to dress up your wedding décor. The beautiful colors of the season are a natural and easy way to brighten the mood of any wedding.

  • Pretty Pastels: If you dream of having a wedding with accents of soft pinks, purples, and blues then Spring is the perfect time for you to tie the knot!

Cons

  • Rainy Weather: In Hindu culture, they believe that rain on your wedding day is a good thing as it represents a lasting marriage. Others worry rain will ruin their day with muddy puddles or frizzy hair.

  • Popular Wedding Time: Spring is the most common time to tie the knot. If you’re considering getting married during springtime, you’ll need to book your vendors well in advance.

Summer

Pro

  • More Outdoors: If you are a fan of the outdoors, a Michigan summer wedding is right for you. During the summer months, there are minimal weather restrictions when planning an event outside.

  • Party All Day: Summer days feel much longer with the sun setting in June in metro Detroit after 9 pm! Newlyweds should take this opportunity to plan a full day of fun with guests to celebrate the new union!

Con

  • Heat Wave: While there are many beautiful sunny summer days in Michigan, the weather can be hot and humid. If you plan a summer wedding in Michigan, you might find yourself celebrating on one of the hottest days of the year.

  • Limited Vendors: During the spring and summer months many celebrations are happening. There are graduation parties, open houses, barbeques and summer festivals taking place. Plan ahead to secure vendors well in advance.

Autumn

Pro

  • Calm Climate: Unlike the other seasons, you do not have to worry too much about extreme weather conditions in Michigan during the fall. Never too hot or cold, no snow and fewer rainy days, autumn in metro Detroit is absolutely magnificent.

  • Seasonal Themes: Fall weddings are the best for rustic, cozy-cabin, and even Halloween-themed decorations. This is the time to highlight pretty shades of red and orange or get spooky with dark attire and Halloween decor!

Con

  • Booked and Busy: Hosting a wedding in the fall poses challenges because most people begin to get back to their normal routines after summer vacation. It is also the busiest event time for the Iroquois Club. The less free time people have the more likely attendance will be lower. This could also be a benefit if you’re trying to keep the guest list down.

  • Skin Concerns: The switch from summer to fall can create dramatic changes in the weather that don’t agree with your skin. Be prepared for an intense skin care regime before your big day if you have sensitive skin.

Winter

Pro

  • Intimate: Colder months call for cozy settings and comfort food. The vibe of most winter weddings foster glamor and intimacy for newlyweds and guests. Wedding goers can really set the mood by enjoying time in front of the lovely flagstone fireplace at the Iroquois Club.

  • Less Competition: Although growing in popularity, fewer people get married in the winter in Michigan than other times of year. As a result, there are potential discounts for many of the details you add to your wedding. Ask potential vendors if they offer an off-season discount.

Con

  • Icy and Cold: Winter, weather, and weddings might not mix well. Not only do you have to compete with snowstorms and icy roads in Michigan, having an outdoor ceremony is nearly impossible.

  • Holidays: The colder months are filled with many of the most celebrated holidays. Wedding guests may take this time to travel to visit friends and family and, therefore, be unable to attend your nuptials. For those whose attendance is paramount, send save the dates well in advance so they can plan accordingly.
