Choosing a Baby Shower Theme
No two babies are alike, so why shouldn’t a baby shower be as unique as the bundle of joy that's on the way? Hostesses have enough on their plates, so consider the following when selecting a theme for the baby-shower-to-be.
Get Guests Buzzing
If the mother-to-be is game, how about a gender reveal baby shower? Entertain guests with a “What will it bee?” shower using bee and honey-inspired decorations and desserts. If mom and dad have a friendly rivalry going on, consider a party with a “team boy or team girl” vibe. Guests can get in on the game by donning blue or pink to show where their allegiance lies. Bonus points for prizes for the team that picks correctly (even though mom and dad are the real winners).
Multiples? More Fun!
If more than one baby is on the way, consider using a shower theme that reflects this double dose of good news! “Peas in a Pod” works well for mamas carrying multiples. If she’s having twins, popular themes include “Double the Fun” or “Thing 1 and Thing 2” from Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat. For triplets, draw inspiration from iconic trios, such as the three little pigs or the three bears from Goldilocks.
Timing is Everything
Baby showers are traditionally held late morning to early afternoon. But we love to buck tradition as long as the hostesses and moms are on board. Let the shower theme dictate timing. If you want to host a vintage tea party, finger sandwiches or breakfast sweets are a must! This makes a brunch or afternoon timed event more fitting. On the other hand, a theme like Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star lends itself to an early evening soiree. If your theme is time-neutral, always defer to what the lady of the hour prefers as she may feel better or worse during different times of day.
Nursery Decor
If the proud parents already have the nursery decor decided, let that lead the way! The nursery will be a fond memory of her and her child, so why not share that experience with others! Common nursery decor includes animals, which you can use to transform the shower into a safari, carnival, or solely focus on one favorite animal (pink flamingo for baby girls, anyone?). The baby’s nursery may not have an overall theme, but color schemes, like pastels or bold prints, offer creative direction for baby showers, too!
